ABC (DCP) Fire Extinguisher

How to choose and look after an ABC extinguisher

Where to use it

ABC dry powder extinguishers cover Class A fires (wood, paper, cloth), Class B (flammable liquids), Class C (gases) and fires involving electrical equipment. That makes them the default choice for offices, shops, homes, housing society common areas, factories and vehicles. The powder leaves a residue, so for server rooms and delicate electronics a CO₂ or clean agent extinguisher is usually a better choice.

Choosing the size and quantity

The number and capacity of extinguishers depend on the floor area, the type of risk and the layout. As a rule, place them along exit routes and near specific hazards so that one is always within easy reach, and mount them where they are visible. We recommend the right mix after a quick site visit.

Care, refilling and servicing

Check every month that the pressure gauge is in the green zone, the safety pin and seal are intact and nothing blocks access. Get it serviced by a trained technician at least once a year, refill it after any use — even a short burst — and follow the pressure-testing schedule in IS 2190. FIRENET refills and services ABC extinguishers with a service tag and report.
