How to choose and look after fire hose reels
Where they are used
Hose reels give trained occupants a continuous water supply for first-aid firefighting before the fire brigade arrives. They are installed on every floor of high-rise buildings, factories, warehouses, hospitals and malls, usually connected to the wet riser or hydrant system.
Choosing the right setup
The hose size, length and cabinet type follow IS 884 and your approved fire drawings. Reels should be placed so that the hose can reach every part of the floor, near exits and staircases, with clear signage.
Care and testing
Check regularly that the drum turns freely, the hose is not cracked, the nozzle is attached and the valve opens. Flow-test the reels during maintenance and keep cabinets unlocked and free of storage. FIRENET services hose reels as part of hydrant AMC.
