How to choose and look after a wheeled extinguisher
Where they are needed
Wheeled (trolley) extinguishers carry far more agent than portable units, so they are kept where a fire can grow large quickly: fuel and solvent stores, petrol pumps, plant floors, warehouses, loading bays and basement car parks. They add to portable extinguishers; they do not replace them.
ABC powder or foam
ABC powder units cover solid materials, flammable liquids and gases, and can be used near electrical equipment. Mechanical foam units are made for large flammable-liquid risks such as fuel and oil stores, but foam must not be used on live electrical equipment.
Care and servicing
Keep the path to the trolley clear so it can be wheeled out at once. Check the hose, nozzle, gauge or cartridge, and the wheels every month, service the unit at least once a year and recharge it after any use. FIRENET services and refills wheeled extinguishers.
