How to choose and look after a foam extinguisher
Where to use it
Foam (AFFF) extinguishers are designed for flammable liquid fires — petrol, diesel, oils, paints and solvents — and also work on Class A materials. They suit fuel stations, garages, workshops, DG rooms, paint stores and chemical storage areas.
What to avoid
Foam is water-based, so do not use it on live electrical equipment. Where electrical risks are present in the same area, pair it with a CO₂ extinguisher.
Care, refilling and servicing
Check monthly that the extinguisher is in place, undamaged and, where fitted, that the pressure gauge is in the green zone. Service it at least once a year, refill it after use, and replace the foam solution when it reaches the end of its recommended life. FIRENET services and recharges foam extinguishers.
