How to choose and use a fire blanket
Where to use it
Fire blankets smother small fires by cutting off oxygen. They are ideal for pan fires in kitchens, small fires in labs and workshops, and for wrapping a person whose clothes have caught fire. Keep one in every home kitchen, commercial kitchen, pantry and lab.
How to use it
Pull the tapes sharply to release the blanket, hold it to shield your hands, place it gently over the burning pan or item, turn off the heat source and leave the blanket in place until everything has cooled. Never lift it early to check.
Placement and care
Mount the blanket near the kitchen exit, within easy reach but not directly above the stove. Check that the pouch and pull-tapes are in good condition, and replace the blanket after it has been used.
